Why I write about this place

I worked for eight years in a bookshop on Via San Biagio dei Librai, a short walk from here, and during those years I took practically every relative, friend and other people’s partners who passed through Naples and asked me to guide them for an hour into the Chapel. I never did it for work: I did it because I knew the way, I knew what time was best to arrive to avoid a crowded nave, and I enjoyed seeing the look on people’s faces when they stopped in front of the Veiled Christ thinking it was made of fabric and then realising it was all marble.

Over the years, I have learned to recognise the questions that always come up: how long the visit actually lasts, whether it is worth booking a guide or if the audio guide is enough, why you cannot buy the ticket on the spot the same morning. These are the same questions I try to answer here, page by page, with what I know from direct experience and what I have verified from official sources when my experience was not sufficient.

What I am NOT

I am not a licensed tourist guide: I do not have the certification, I cannot accompany a group inside the Chapel for a fee, and I do not do so. When I compare guided tours bookable on GetYourGuide on this site, I do so as a reader of reviews and as someone who knows the place, not as a guide promoting myself.

This site, moreover, is not the Sansevero Chapel Museum and has no official relationship with the ownership or those who manage it: the museum’s official website is museosansevero.it, and that is where you will find updated opening times and the official admission price. Here, I compare guided tours sold on GetYourGuide, explain how booking works, and share what those who have already been there have told me, without selling tickets myself.

How I work

Every page on this site is based on three things: what I know because I grew up next to it, what I verify from official sources (opening times, rules, historical data), and real reviews left on GetYourGuide by those who have already taken one of the six tours I compare. I do not invent reviewers or inflate ratings: if a tour has a lower rating than the others, I state that at the outset, not at the end.
